HANGING INSTRUCTIONS for paper backed wallpapers

These instructions are for hanging all of our paper backed wallpapers

All wallpapers are fire rated for use in commercial and residential interiors:
- European fire standard EN 15102 (B s1 d0)
- British Standard 476 part 6-6 fire propagation test (1989)
- British Standard 476 part 7 (1997)
- Class '0'
- Class A (USA)

The traditional technique used to print Erica Wakerly wallpapers may result in slight irregularites in the print. This will not affect the overall finished effect.

Erica Wakerly walloverings are specialised products and it is recommended they are hung by an experienced hanger.

To minimise the hazard in the event of fire, DO NOT hang wallpapers over the expanded polystyrene veneers or any other such highly flammable products and ensure wall-coverings are always firmly stuck down.

1. Inspect Each roll

Before cutting and hanging the wallcovering, ensure that all rolls have the same batch reference, are in good condition, with no variation in shade, and that no other faults are present. Please ensure there are enough rolls to complete the job.

Do not assume that the wallcovering will come off the rolls the come off the roll the correct way up. Check with the images on our website.

Examination before hanging is the buyer’s responsibility. No claim can be accepted after wallcoverings have been cut and hung, for defects which are apparent at the time of hanging.

2. Preparation

Walls should be clean dry and even. Remove any old wallpaper and loose paint. Roughen painted surfaces with sandpaper. Scrape powdery, flaky surface. Absorbant surfaces should be prepared with an oil based primer ensuring it dries completely. New plaster should be allowed to dry out completely.

For best results, we recommend that the walls are cross lined using a good quality lining paper. Sizing the lining paper will help with adhesion. Lining should be allowed to dry completely before hanging the wallcoverings.

Dark coloured wallcoverings may need their edges coloued with a crayon of a similar tone to avoid white edges showing.

3. Pasting and Hanging.

This is a ‘paste the wall’ product. The decorator should paste the wall and not the back of the wallcovering.

A Premium Quality Tub adhesive, or and equivalent good quality, so,vent free, fungicide protected, light grade adhesive should be used. DO NOT USE SELF-MIX ADHESIVES. ALL PURPOSE AND HEAVY DUTY PASTES ARE NOT SUITABLE.

Cut your lengths allowing for pattern matching and for final trimming top and bottom. The correct match should be established before cutting lengths. Apply an even coat of paste to the paper ensuring the edges are well covered, allow to soak for 4-5 minutes until the paper is supple. Do not oversoak. DO NOT paste more than one length at a time. Use a plumb line (or spirit level and faint pencil line) to ensure the paper is vertical. Smooth the paper on to the wall using a paperhangers brush, from the centre of the length to the edge to expel air bubbles. After hanging 2-3 lengths check the wallpaper for any shading or printing faults. No claims will be accepted for more than one roll and any claim is strictly limited to the replacement of faulty wallpaper. It is recommended that the wallpaper should be left to dry overnight before inspection (good ventilation and an even temperature will assist the wallpaper to dry evenly).

NO PASTE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE SURFACE, and hands should be kept clean and dry while handling the wallcovering.

PASTE WILL DAMAGE THE SURFACE. Erica Wakerly Ltd cannot accept responsibility for marks of damage caused by paste.

Should any paste have been allowed to come into contact with the surface, it should be lightly sponged whilst still moist, using a clean damp sponge.

Ensure wallcovering is firmly adhered as, in the event of fire, loose wallcoverings can contribute to the hazard.

After hanging 2 or 3 lengths, inspect the result to enure that no shading or other faults are present.

The information is supplied in good faith. Site conditions are beyond our control. It is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure that the environment is suitable for the wallcovering.
